Many individuals do not know that hydrocodone, Percocet, morphine, and other strong pain killers are derivatives of Opium, just as is heroine. There are 100 people per day dying from overdosing on theirprescription medicationin the United States. Dr. Rexroth pleads with listeners to not hesitate in questioning their doctors regarding any prescription they receive, particularly if it’s for pain, to be sure it’s not an opioid.
While most people know exercising is beneficial to health, aiding in regulating the immune system, digestion, detoxification, etc. most may also not realize there are times when exercising may actually cause more damage than benefit, such as if a muscle or joint is already hurt or damaged. Dr. Curt Rexroth D.C. C.C.N. details the role chiropractors play in these types of situations.
1. Dr. Curt Rexroth D.C. C.C.N. shares several studies the AMA has published concluding NSAIDs are not an effective treatment for low back, neck, and headache pain, leading many doctors to begin prescribing opioids instead. The doctor briefly describes the danger of this as opioids are highly addictive and not actually very effective pain killers. Instead, Dr. Rexroth begs listeners to try chiropractic care first, which the AMA now accepts as a proven method (and more effective) at reducing pain and improving function without any adverse effects.
Dr. Curt Rexroth D.C. C.C.N. takes listeners through a brief history between the American Medical Association and the Chiropractic Profession, beginning with the Committee on Quackery, the AMA’s illegal boycott of Chiropractic care, and ending with the AMA’s current conclusion that Chiropractic care is more effective at treating low back pain than medication. Supporting the AMA’s conclusion, the doctor reviews two trial studies: the first demonstrating that pain improves with spinal manipulation; the second demonstrating that function can improve with spinal manipulation.
Dr. Rexroth regards the success of the human species and our ability to overcome illness, marveling that no illness has wiped homo sapiens out. Despite this success, the doctor muses, our society has allowed itself to become reliant on medication. Dr. Rexroth gives the example of the common cold: influenza B.
Dr. Curt Rexroth D.C. C.C.N. shares information regarding how proton-pump inhibitors such as Nexium, Prilosec, etc. reduce the body’s overall acidity, potentially leading to malnutrition, GERD, and even Alzheimer’s Disease. He goes on to discuss a supplement available at Welcome to Health: GI GUARD AM and PM. (Transcript available.)
Dr. Curt Rexroth D.C. C.C.N. discusses generally what arthritis is, as well as how chiropractic care can address arthritic pain. While comparing two nearly identical disk injuries belonging to two football players, the doctor also briefly discusses non-steroidal anti-inflammatory use and how it slows healing by interrupting the acute and general inflammatory responses.
Dr. Curt Rexroth D.C. C.C.N. discusses the over-prescription of antibiotics and steroids to treat the common cold. He reviews how steroids turn down the body's natural inflammatory response which allows you to combat the offending virus. He also reviews some of the risks and secondary effects of long and short term steroid use.
Dr. Curt Rexroth D.C. C.C.N. reviews the roles of the mitochondria including: energy production, apoptosis (cell-suicide) and the newly-researched area of AUTOPHAGY: the signaling to recycle old cell parts into new cell parts. Dr. Rexroth reviews how sugar metabolism influences the body's ability to successfully accomplish these necessary processes and increases the likelihood of cancer.
